2019 Domaine de la Chanteleuserie Cabernet Franc, Vieilles Vignes, Bourgueil , Loire Valley, France

"This Bourgueil marries the qualities of a juicy Beaujolais with the form and strength of a young Bordeaux. It’s a classical style, but the fun factor is there. Loaded with cassis and cracked white pepper, it will pair with a vibrant and spicy arugula salad, or pork tenderloin with rosemary and prune." - Jane Augustine for Kermit Lynch

From a Haute Valeur Environnementale clay-limestone vineyard containing vines at least 40 years old (but an average of 65). Vigneron Thierry Boucard at Domaine de la Chanteleuserie, or in English, " the place where the larks sing," produces some of the finest, age worthy wines in the region and this wine is no exception. It's a wonderful thing to find a wine so good so young while knowing that it will be even better in the future (drink by 2026).

DOMAINE DE LA CHANTELEUSERIE

Just outside of the village of Benais, in the heart of the Touraine, sits lovely Domaine de la Chanteleuserie. This “place where the larks sing,” as the name means, is perched on a limestone plateau in an idyllic landscape. Moise Boucard, avigneronwhom Kermit discovered in 1976, has not only given his good sense of humor and modesty to his son, Thierry, but his winemaking skills, too. This is the land of Cabernet Franc, and Thierry makes pure varietal wines. Bourgueil is among the most age-worthy of the Loire Valley’s reds, and Chanteleuserie’s are no exception: their 1976 still drinks well today! These structured wines also have a suppleness and generosity of fruit that set them apart from most wines produced in the area today.
